STORY BEHIND THE CENTRE
The MADCOTA Community Hub , originally named Maryborough Senior Citizens Centre, was a visionary project of the Maryborough and District Committee On The Ageing Inc. The Centre was developed to welcome senior citizens from across Maryborough regardless of the source of their income and hence the underpinning drive of inclusive social behaviours was formed.
The centre came about due to the painstaking persistence and fundraising drives of the volunteers within the organisation, and with the fortunate financial grant assistance from the Federal Government at that time. It was officially opened to the public by Hon. Keith Hooper, M.L.A. Minister for Transport on 16th April 1977.
The building is wholly owned by The Maryborough & District Committee On The Ageing Inc, and is situated on Queensland Rail land on which a termed lease is periodically negotiated.
Over the years the Centre has played host to many memorable moments such as weddings and debutante balls, but most importantly played a crucial role in providing a home for other organisations such as University of the Third Age (U3A) and the Maryborough Seniors Citizens Club Inc.
The building still solidly stands in it's original construction design, proudly maintained over many years by it's Senior volunteers, however the time had come to begin to mould and move with the current needs of current residents and centre users, and in 2020 the building name was changed to MADCOTA Community Hub to reflect this direction.
On the 16th August, 2021 MADCOTA governing documents were updated to incorporate a greater demographic of the Maryborough community, and so the exciting journey into the future begins.
MADCOTA Community Hub continues to be a home for U3A and is now home to JP's In The Community, Maryborough Toastmasters Club and is Maryborough base for TransComCare Transport Services.
Since 2021 the centre developed community partnerships with Maryborough State High School and St Marys College as well as a publicity partnership with Maryborough Sun who assist to delivery events and projects to the community.
